The DC Darlings Beauty Edit: Dry Shampoo

The DC Darlings tested the top-selling dry shampoos at Sephora to find the best product. Read reviews on Living Proof, Moroccanoil, drybar, and Ouai.

I am SO guilty of using dry shampoo for more consecutive days than I probably should. These days, there are so many products on the market, and it can be hard to navigate the shelves of Sephora where every bottle claims it is “the best” or “#1.” I decided to purchase mini bottles, of the top-selling dry shampoos, at Sephora to find out which is actually the best. Here are my findings…and my dirty hair thanks all these products –

Top Dry Shampoos Ranked in Order

Living Proof – Perfect Hair Day

Morrocanoil Dry Shampoo

drybar “Detox” Dry Shampoo

Ouai Dry Shampoo Foam

#1 Living Proof Perfect Hair Day

I felt this dry shampoo cleaned my hair the best and its smell was just lovely. It disperses into my hair seamlessly and even my greasiest days can be combatted by a few sprays! It really does clean vs. just layer a thick/sticky scent on your hair. Shop here.

What the experts say: This Dry Shampoo cleans beyond ordinary dry shampoos. It’s powered by a patented healthy hair molecule (OFPMA) and triple-action cleaning technology that absorbs and removes oil, sweat, and odor for ultimately refreshed hair. It’s great for all hair colors, leaving virtually no visible residue or powdery buildup behind, and features a time-released fragrance to deliver a light, clean scent throughout the day.

#2 Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo

The Moroccan Oil dry shampoo smells GREAT (the signature Moroccan Oil scent). I love this product because it doesn’t make my hair feel too dry (that awful crunchy feeling…if you’ve tested a few baaaad dry shampoos, you know exactly what I mean), yet it absorbs all of the excess oil in my scalp.  If you’re looking for something that gives you a freshly washed feel, this product is for you! Check it out here!

What the experts say: Moroccanoil®’s Dry Shampoo Light Tones instantly cleanses and refreshes, thanks to ultra-fine rice starch that absorbs excess oil and product buildup. Formulated for light hair tones, subtle violet pigments—similar to the concept of purple shampoo—help balance brassiness and bring out the best in light-colored hair. This argan oil-infused dry shampoo protects from UV rays while deodorizing and leaving your hair with the signature Moroccanoil scent.

#3 drybar Detox Dry Shampoo

This product does a great job of cleaning my hair, but the scent is super strong (very sweet). I actually really enjoy the smell, but I feel as if it clashes with my perfume and way too strong for a dry shampoo. Overall, it is a great dry shampoo, my hair feels clean and not weighed down, yet the overly pungent sweet smell is a drawback for me. Read more about it here.

What the experts say: Detox Dry Shampoo Lush is the same great formula as the original Detox Dry Shampoo—now in a lush new scent featuring violet, sandalwood, and musk. The super-absorbent Dry Shampoo contains micro-fine rice powders that become translucent as they absorb to naturally blend with hair colors and expand to provide lift in the roots. Golden root extract increases moisture to prevent dryness and breakage for a healthy look.

#4 Ouai Foam Dry Shampoo

Darlings, I can’t lie to y’all…I really did not like this dry shampoo. It left my hair looking the same if not more oily. It does give volume but I’d rather my hair look clean! Has anyone else had a similar experience with this product?

What the experts say: Ouai’s Dry Shampoo Foam leaves hair feeling cleansed, conditioned, and ready to be re-styled as desired. Use it on clean hair for a burst of volume at the roots. If your hair is super fine or oily, Ouai recommends their regular Dry Shampoo for maximum oil absorption.

I love the DryBar dry shampoo!! I can’t bring myself to spend the money on it but I got a sample and loved the way my hair looked when I used it!

I never trusted my hairdresser when she recommends shampoo to me, but my hair was so damaged last time I saw her. She gave me a free bottle of the Somaluxe Paradise Shampoo (which is made for dry and damaged hair) and I have seen a 100% difference in my hair for the better. It’s softer, less flat, and less split ends. NO FRIZZ.

Highly recommend this because it sounds like you are having the same issues I was having. I actually purchased it from Amazon, because it was cheaper than buying on the company website.
