The DC Darlings: State of the Union

In our current situation, I wanted to provide some ideas of activities you can do over the weekend. I get a bit more intense than our typical posts but such is life!

I promise this will be our only corona-related post!

I AM A GLASS HALF FULL KINDA GAL & WE CAN ALL MAKE THE BEST OF OUR CURRENT SITUATION IF WE OCCUPY OUR TIME WITH POSITIVE THOUGHTS + ACTIVITIES!

I’m writing this because life as we know it has taken a quick pause. We are used to waking up and getting on the hamster wheel that we call life – we wake up, we go to work, we may do something fun after work (workout or dinner out with friends) and then we go home. On weekends, we travel for pleasure, we meet friends for drinks or we just live our damn lives by walking outside and figuring out what we want to do that day! We are humans of habit & we typically don’t like it when our routine is disrupted.

Enter: The Coronavirus.

We’ve seen the awful impact the virus has inflicted on places like China and Italy. Now, it is inevitably coming to the US. I live in Boston and today, numerous articles came out with the headlines “Massachusetts is the next Italy…” How you can read that and not get a bit nervous is beyond me. I went to the grocery store tonight and there was absolutely nothing on the shelves besides celery (also – celery isn’t THAT bad for it to be the only thing left at Trader Joes!!). The feeling in the store was pure panic and I left with a lump in my throat and I was panicked! I have family members who have chronic medical conditions and I have a minor lung issue myself – I worried thinking…what could happen if a family member got the virus? Cue self-reflection and anti-freakout measures…

I posted on our stories that when I came home I needed to take a moment and decompress – I was stressed about what I had just experienced. So many of you responded and said you felt the exact same way! As I said earlier, it is extremely important to stay informed and read as much as possible + do our part and follow the CDC recommendations. At the same time, if you are feeling legit anxiety over what you are reading and watching, it is important to take a step back and do something that takes your mind off of your nervous thoughts. Fear in situations like this is cyclical and the more you panic – the more you spread panic (I am 100% guilty of this during this situation and I am working on it!).

I want our platform to be an outlet for you and I sincerely apologize if this is too much Coronavirus talk for you 🙁 I promise this will be our only blog post about it – I just thought it would be a good idea to put together a list of activities, tv-shows, movies, & more for us while we spend more time at home.

Thank you for posting this!! I think a lot of people (including me!!) are feeling what you’re feeling about this virus. But I love your positivity & list of things to do at home as I have been very bored! Best of luck during this crazy time, we will all get through it!
