We are both obsessed with taking care of our skin, which is why we wanted to share one of our favorite skincare services: the HydraFacial at SkinDC.
So, what is a HydraFacial? Basically, it is a super intense cleanse + extraction procedure for your skin. Unlike a spa facial, the HydraFacial combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection all at once.
Why get a HydraFacial? Because it provides the results of microdermabrasion, chemical peel and a deep-cleansing facial combined. Molly’s Skin Story:
I struggle with my skin A LOT. Oddly, I rarely had any issues with my skin in middle or high school. About half way through college, I started developing cystic acne along my jawline and also became prone to hormonal acne on my chin. My dermatologist recommended the HydraFacial treatment in order to help clear up my skin. So, I was introduced to Megan Keany, a Master Aesthetician who now practices at SkinDC in Arlington, VA. Megan gave me my first HydraFacial in 2014 and I’ve been going to her ever since – she is so kind, patient, and answers all my crazy questions about skincare. During my first treatment, Megan and I learned that we went to the same high school (Georgetown Visitation) a few years apart. It has been so fun getting to know her over the years!!
For me, the HydraFacial is like hitting the “Refresh” button for my skin. First, Megan cleanses my skin of impurities, sucking out all the dirt and bacteria in my pores. Then, she performs exfoliation and extracting treatments (she will pop everything!!) She then hydrates the skin with serums and finishes up with an LED antibacterial light therapy. At the end of the treatment, you can see all the dirt that was extracted from the skin (if you want – so gross but so fascinating!!) Immediately after a HydraFacial, my skin is a little irritated from the extractions, but it also has such a clean glow to it. Once the redness subsides, I can see and feel how rejuvenated my skin is – like a fresh start!!
Katie’s Skin Story:
My skin changes per season. In the summer, I have combination skin; in the winter, I have extremely dry skin; In the Spring, I get eczema on my face from an allergic reaction to pollen (see blog post here). Recently, I’ve struggled with tiny bumps on my forehead…I have tried EVERYTHING to get rid of them. I found acne cream would irritate my skin and turn it red for days without the tiny bumps going away. They were driving me absolutely wild and I had to do something about them (I am addicted to skincare and after trying so many methods without seeing positive results, I was desperate!).
In the past, Molly spoke about how amazing HydraFacial’s were/are but I continued going to spas to receive facials. Now I think to myself, WHY HAVE I BEEN DOING THAT FOR SO LONG?!! Don’t get me wrong, I love the relaxing element of a facial but it is quite disconcerting to spend $$$ and look the exact same. I received SO MANY compliments on my skin in the week after my HydraFacial…I glowed so much that my sister booked a facial within the week! HydraFacials are great for hitting “restart” for your skin, and you will see improvements in skin texture and tone after just one treatment. To maintain this result, our dermatologists recommend monthly treatments – however, that is not always realistic for our schedules (and our budgets). But, we do believe that HydraFacials are a great way to get a fresh start at the beginning of each season if you can.
