Wedding Planning with Katie: Q + A

After a year of being engaged, how about a wedding update Q+A? I figured it’s time to answer a lot of the questions I’ve been getting about wedding planning. If you’re wondering why I haven’t shared much up to this point, it’s because we really only started to plan a few weeks ago. We are really enjoying being engaged, calling each other fiancé(e) and taking our sweet time planning the big day!!

We just started planning and I thought it was a fitting time to answer your questions and give you a little wedding update!!

WEDDING UPDATE Q+A:

HAVE YOU CHOSEN A DATE?

This is the question I’ve been asked most since we got engaged!! YES! We are getting married on October o5, 2019! We were thinking of getting married in September but both sets of our parents got married in October! We thought it would be cute and meaningful to follow in their footsteps. October ’19 seems like forever away, but it will be here before we know it!!

WHERE WILL YOU GUYS GET MARRIED?

I am from DC and Chris is from Boston. The majority of his friends are in the New England area. Since I went to Cornell, in upstate New York, a huge number of my girlfriends live in NYC. A large percentage of my high school friends, from the DC area, moved away from the DMV. Logistically, with so many people living in different areas, we figured our wedding would be “destination-esque” for one side of our family/friends. Long story short, we chose Newport, RI, because it is easy for both my family/friends to attend, as well as Chris’ side.  For us, personally, we would rather (almost) everyone we invite be able to make it to the wedding because that’s what it’s about for us….the more the merrier! The people who surround you on your big day make the wedding!

When I was a young girl, my family took a tour of Rosecliff Mansion in Newport, RI. I knew immediately that I wanted to get married there! Chris and I both LOVE the beach and we wanted to incorporate the ocean into our wedding. Rosecliff is amazing because while it is an incredible mansion, it is also right on the water! I’m completely in love and I cannot wait to say “I DO” here…did I mention Rosecliff is modeled after the Petit Trianon on the grounds of Versailles?! Louis XVI gifted the “mini Versailles” to Marie Antoinette. What girl wouldn’t want to get married in a French palace? Major Princess moment…SWOON!

WHAT IDEAS DO YOU HAVE IN MIND FOR YOUR DRESS?

I am all over the place when it comes to my wedding dress. I know I love lace, tulle, romance. Do I want to be more trendy or classic? Still deciding…I think I will ‘know’ once I try on dresses! Here are some photos I saved (not in any particular order) –

Would you guys be interested in a blog post of me trying on dresses or an IG story?

HOW DID YOU & CHRIS MEET?

We met at Trinity College in CT. I went there my first year of school before I transferred to Cornell. Chris was a junior at the time and I was a freshman. We met in September and sparks flew!

HAVE YOU DECIDED ON BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES?

Surprisingly enough, I have thought about my bridesmaids dresses more than I have my own dress. I definitely want neutral tones and think I’m leaning towards blush, ivory, cream, gold, nude type colors – very neutral. I am pretty set that the dresses will be different styles and different colors. Bodies are so different and what one girl loves might not be the most flattering for another…why make my bffs wear something they don’t love?! I want the girls to look like they are going to the Oscars, less “bridesmaidy.” Lots of beading and glamour! Here are some ideas I have –

What are yall’s thoughts on the bridesmaid attire? Should I do a separate post on this? I have yet to ask my bridesmaids and I plan on doing it this fall – closer to the wedding. Do you have any fun ideas on how to ask them? I want to do something outside the box. I have a few ideas up my sleeve but I am always open to your fabulous suggestions!!

WILL YOU BE DOING WEDDING POSTS THROUGHOUT YOUR PLANNING PROCESS?

Yes, absolutely! I have just added a ‘wedding‘ tab to the main menu under ‘categories’ where you can find all of my wedding posts. I’m going to need all the help and input from you guys I can get!! I also love that this is such a great time for y’all to get to know me on a more personal level and for me to have the opportunity to engage with an entirely new audience/demographic (brides, wives, moms, etc). Please leave your questions in the comments below or anything you might want to see along my wedding journey so I can include them in future wedding posts!

XO.
