Into the Bluff: Our Incredible Stay at the Montage Palmetto Bluff Resort

A month ago, I spent a few days in Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina, at the Montage Palmetto Bluff. I couldn’t believe how many of you reached out to say that it’s one of your favorite resorts or that you’re getting married there! After reading this post, I hope you get a glimpse into the magic of this resort – it is laid back southern elegance at its finest & truly a special place.

Trust me when I tell you, once you step foot on property, you will never want to leave.

We also felt completely safe as the Montage is going to great measures to keep all guests and staff safe and healthy, during this time.

ABOUT THE MONTAGE:

Nestled along the scenic May River in South Carolina’s Lowcountry, Montage Palmetto Bluff is set within a vibrant 20,000-acre community between Hilton Head Island and Savannah. The resort encompasses an extensive nature preserve, a riverfront marina and a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. There are 8 restaurants, a spa, golf course, boutique, fitness center, and so much more!

You could stay for a week and still have so many activities left to try! With kayaking, horseback riding, golfing, biking, sporting clays, paddleboarding, fishing, scenic yacht cruises and the list goes on!

We were only on the property for 2.5 days (we need to go back to experience more) so we decided to play golf one day and explore the Bluff, via the Picnic and Pedals Veuve Clicquot experience, the next day.

Here are two itineraries from the Montage website to help you better plan your trip:

PICNIC AND PEDALS:

There is simply no better way to see Palmetto Bluff than via bike! We loved our day exploring the Bluff via the Veuve Cliquot Picnic + Pedal experience! Who wouldn’t want to have a picnic with Veuve and a delicious spread?!

The property mapped out the best trails and picture-perfect settings to spread out your blanket and enjoy the most picturesque afternoon!

We pedaled along the river, past stunning homes and we even stumbled upon the most picturesque treehouse! Just when you think one area couldn’t get any more beautiful, you’ll discover an entirely new area, filled with restaurants, markets, cottages, and natural beauty.

GOLF:

Welcome to a golfers paradise! The Montage features an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Course. The greens run throughout the May River Forest and several holes on the banks of the river. It was the most beautiful course I have ever seen! My husband, Chris, is obsessed with golf and believes it is the hardest, yet most fun, course he’s ever played. I cannot wait to visit again and challenge him to a round.

If you’re only just getting into golf, you can still enjoy the picturesque course at the world-class practice facility or driving range.

Accommodations:

This was my second time staying at a Montage property and it will definitely not be the last. We stayed in the main building, during our last visit, but we booked a room overlooking the lagoon this time around. We had our own little deck overlooking the water and we enjoyed the most peaceful mornings savoring our coffees and fun evenings sipping red wine. The rooms are absolutely stunning and I slept like a queen in the plushiest bed. Don’t even get me started on the bathroom and its gigantic bathtub – heavenly!

The property has a collection of spacious cottages, guestrooms, suites, and larger village homes. You can learn all about the different accommodations – HERE.

DINING:

Let me tell you…if you are a foodie, the Montage is a must visit!! We indulged and it was magnificient. Lowcountry-inspired fare is for me! There are so many options for dining and you can learn more about them – HERE.

We frequented Octagon a few times during our stay, I just coudn’t get enough of the picturesque setting overlooking the lagoon. The menu features a modern take on classic Carolina cuisine. Everything we ordered was out of this world and why yes, I did order a second round of fried green tomatoes right after finishing the first…

PS: for breakfast at Octagon, you must order the Bourbon French Toast. Thank me later 😉

On our last night, we had dinner at Cole’s, one of the restaurants on the property. I wanted classic southern food and we got it! We started with fried pickles (a must try!!), followed by the famous fried chicken… it was the BEST fried chicken I’ve EVER had. We shared a platter of pulled pork and brisket (your girl loves to eat lol) and again, it was the best barbeque I’ve ever had!!! Actually just writing this is making me hungry…need to go back to the the Montage to eat!!!

THE MAGIC OF PALMETTO BLUFF:

I will stop gushing now but it is a special property. You feel as if you’re living in an enchanted forest – there really are no words to describe it. You just cannot fully get a feel for it through photos alone – you need to experience it! You need to to see the draping Spanish Moss cascading down from the oaks. You need to see the dolphins jumping on the May River and taste the yummy s’mores that are roasted nightly at the River House. You need to walk across the bridge, to the main building, and listen to the birds chirping (PS: it’s a nature conservation).

Chris and I love to travel and I can tell you, Palmetto Bluff is special. We will definitely come back, and keep coming back, to enjoy the magic of Lowcountry.
