It is safe to say these Darlings have a severe case of wanderlust. We love to travel and see different countries and cultures.  Over the years, we have mastered the art of packing…it took trial & error (example: blowing the circuit in Capri, Italy when attempting to use a steamer), but we now are pros! We created a list, “The DC Darlings Top Packing Tips” for you to use on your next excursion! Packing will now be a breeze, and it will not seem overwhelming.

Below, you will find our packing “GO TO’S” –

PACKING 4-1-1

Wrinkle Free Packing Tips

It is always lovely to arrive at your destination with clothes you can quickly unpack and put on, without worrying if items are too wrinkly aka unwearable. Here are some top ideas for “wrinkle free clothing” or close to it!

The Rolling Method

To save space and prevent wrinkling, roll your clothes instead of folding them. The rolling method is great to pack jeans, pants, jackets, blouses, and sweaters.

To start:

  1. Lay the item flat
  2. Cross sleeves across each other
  3. Fold in half vertically
  4. Starting from the bottom, roll it up.

Once you arrive at your destination, do not forget to hang rolled garments. This method permits that all of your gorgeous outfits to remain fresh and fabulous throughout your trip.

Tissue Paper

For delicate items you do not want wrinkling, we suggest trying tissue paper. This method we really only use for evening clothes we do not want to damage en route.

To start:

  1. Lay the item face down and place tissue paper on top
  2. Fold it up with the tissue paper inside
  3. Use additional layers of paper as you fold the garment, so it is completely wrapped in and around paper

Garment Bags

Garment bags are great for silk blouses and other items you do not want to wrinkle on your journey.

Packing Toiletries

Do you ever open your suitcase after a long flight only to see your toiletries exploded all over your newly purchased vacation outfits?! Make sure to store all toiletry bottles in plastic bags to avoid having them explode and ruin your toiletry bag. Some of our picks are featured below:

Packing Lingerie & Undergarments

Pack undergarments and lingerie in mesh baggies to keep them fresh and easy to find. You can also pack an extra bag for used items to make it easier to navigate. We like to add lavender scented satchels in our suitcase to keep all of our clothes smelling clean! Check out these amazing satchels – they are also great to place in your drawers Sonoma Lavender Satchels

Other Tips

  • Stack bras on top of one another and lay them flat in your suitcase
  • Stack underwear and roll it, filling in any gaps between clothing

Avoid Stains

Never worry about arriving at your destination with stains on your clothing. To avoid this, you should pack your light colored clothes inside out!

Heavy Items

Your heaviest items should always be placed in the bottom of your suitcase to prevent crushing your more delicate pieces

Packing a Hat

If you plan on bringing a hat, stuff a scarf or socks in the body of the hat. Always place it at the top of your tote – never pack your hat in your checked luggage!

Check Airline Baggage Policy

Every airline is different regarding baggage. Often, you can get a better deal if you pre-purchase your checked luggage online than if you wait until you are at the airport. In addition, read about the airline weight limit policy before you head to the airport…nothing is worse than a $50 overweight baggage fee!
