Get a Haircut
Firsts things first. If you are struggling with damaged hair from heat styling or over-processed hair from color the ONLY thing that will get rid of those ends is a haircut! Products help the healing process, but in the end, it’s important to find a stylist you trust and getting a haircut every 10-12 weeks is what I typically recommend to those in need.
Protect from Heat
Whenever you are using a hot tool, i.e. flat iron, wand or curling iron you must use a heat protector. My go-to is Davines Melu hair shield. It creates a barrier between your hair and your tool. This will help prevent any further damage due to tools.
Don’t Wash Your Hair ‘As Much’
Stop washing your hair! Many people think that washing your hair isn’t damaging, but by washing it daily, you are actually drying it out. For beginners try every other day and let me introduce you to my little friend dry shampoo. My go-to is Blowpro faux dry. Simply squeeze the bottle to release the dry shampoo at your part brush it out and voila the powder absorbs the oils, and you have fresh, clean hair.
Repair Your Hair
Oribe Gold Lust Repair & Restore Shampoo and Conditioner to help repair those locks when it’s time to wash your mane. I like to finish off with the Oribe split end seal. It helps lock down those split ends and creates shine.
Take Vitamins
Sugar bear hair vitamins are a necessity! These literally taste like a fruit gummy. You’ll want to eat more but two a day keeps the short hair away! These little bears are packed with folic acid, b12, and biotin. They will help nourish hair from the inside out, give your hair back its strength and give you healthy shiny hair.

Our Favorite Hair Tools
Hair tools make SUCH a difference! Although the right hair products may hurt your wallet a bit more than your run of the mill tools, the benefits are so worth it! Our favorite hair tool brand is ghd!!! We cannot stress how much we LOVE these products – both of our hair is so much healthier since we started using the straightener, curling wand and blow dryer!
The ghd styler is suitable for all hair types and it creates effortless curls, waves or a sleek straight finish! Developed by ghd scientists, the platinum® styler consistently delivers ultimate results and healthier hair. One of the reasons we love it, besides the fact it doesn’t burn our hair to a crisp, is that it heats up in 20 seconds…so long are the days you are late to work and waiting a few minutes for your hair tool to get hawttt. Also, for all of you gals that freak out that you didn’t turn off your straightener after you left the house, this tool automatically turns off in 30 minutes! I have legit been at a restaurant when I started to sweat that my straightener was on and would catch my house on fire…aka this rocks! Read more about it here.
This gorgeous black and blush pink blow dryer delivers a salon finish 2x faster. It has a powerful professional motor and patented removable air filter; the ghd air® delivers high-pressure air flow for super-fast drying. While advanced ionic technology reduces frizz and fly-aways for a smooth and sleek, salon-style finish. It rocks, and we cannot say enough about how fabulous it is! Molly’s Healthy Hair from Following These Tips
A list of hair tips we have learned throughout the years
- Blot don’t rub wet hair with towel
- To reduce damage from high heat styling tools and blow-dryers, pick tools with ionic or ceramic technology and adjust settings to lowest heat possible
- Use pre-shampoo – it works like a sealant and it smooths the hair’s cuticle before it gets wet so there’s less damage
- Condition every time you shampoo and finish your conditioning in the shower with a cold rinse
- Cold water closes the hair cuticle, which can help seal your hair and prevent it from damage
- Give wet hair extra TLC. It stretches and snaps more easily than dry hair does, so be extra-gentle with it
- Use a wide-tooth plastic comb while hair is wet; then, once it’s towel-dried, switch to a good brush
- Sleep on silk – damage is caused while sleeping due to the hair being roughed up and tangled. A silk pillow will help give a more slippery surface for the hair and [will] avoid excess friction, resulting in less repeat styling and brushing. We recommend Slipsilk products!
