The Blue Lagoon is a magical and other worldly experience. As soon as you drive up to the Lagoon, you are surrounded by 800 year old lava rocks covered with green moss. It appears as if you are driving on the moon! Only 45 minutes outside Reykjavik, the Blue Lagoon is a must see. It is also one of the most popular excursions in Iceland so make sure to book your relaxing day waaaayyyy in advance!
Blue Lagoon Spa – In Water Massages
I traveled to Iceland with my family and they treated us to massages at the Blue Lagoon…&&&& it was a tres cool experience! Once we checked in with the reception, we were led to a secluded spa area. Upon our arrival, we took off our robes and slippers and RAN into the water! Let me tell you…it was a freezing 10 second sprint.
In the water, we met our masseuses and they guided us to our massage tables. The coolest part was that our massage tables were actually floating rafts!! It was unlike any other spa experience. The massage lasted one hour and it was heavenly. They covered us with a blanket that filled with hot water and kept our bodies on fireeee! After a long flight from DC, a massage was just what the doctor ordered.
Hair Treatment – COVER IT IN CONDITIONER BEFORE YOU ENTER THE LAGOON
At the Lagoon, they tell you to cover your hair in tons of conditioner. “Tons” is relative and I thought I put enough conditioner in my hair. However, I left the Lagoon with brittle hair. The good news is they say it goes back to its previous luster after a handful of washes. After 1 wash my sister’s hair is back to normal….mine after 3 washes is still a bit hard at the ends 🙁
My words of wisdom would be to go towards the end of the spectrum in terms of the word “tons.”
Face Masks – Prepare for Baby Soft Skin
If you have seen any Instagram pictures of your friends at the Lagoon, you probably have seen funny faced people with green and white masks on their faces! Well, those funny masks are actually awesome!!
The Masks in Order
1. Silica Mud Mask: Cleanses and removes dirt/bacteria from pores
2. Algae Mask: Hydrating mask that softens and nourishes the skin
Overall, the experience was incredible. I hope to return in the future!!!
